That said... Yusuke doesn't like how quiet Akechi's been. He didn't murder anyone (or attempted to as far as he knew, only death threats on the network), but that didn't mean it wouldn't happen eventually.]
Good morning, Akira
unfortunately, I haven't.
It is odd that he's quiet for this long
no subject
as avoidant as he can be, he usually caves sooner rather than later
[Akira knows this from experience. Akechi had wanted to keep his distance during their raid of Maruki's Palace, but even he gave in to invitations to his favorite jazz club. so. . . yes. the long stretch of silence is abnormal]
[. . .]
he has been here about as long as you have, right?
no subject
[Whether if it's to try pry information out of people, announce another wedding, or another divorce.]
He has been. It has been challenging navigating his mood swings
but he didn't cause any major problems, as far as I know
[He's going to avoid chatting about their 18+ rated interactions in a wide circle...]
no subject
maybe he went home.
[similar to how Akira did, supposedly. . . here and gone and then back again, without his prior memories. and isn't that a good thing? for Akechi to free himself from the clutches of another malevolent being? especially one that deserves to be torn down, piece by piece by shattered piece]
[except for the part. . .]
[. . .]
[. . . maybe he shouldn't think about whether his detective actually managed to find a place for himself in the world. . . or whether he just vanished back into oblivion. that causes an uncomfortable lump to form in his throat]
you remember how he was going to betray us. did you two have a hard time getting along?
no subject
He was a high-ranked card here, and then he suddenly got "demoted". He'd get very testy when asked about it.
I hope he didn't do anything stupid. He knows better than that.
[He's supposed to be the extremely intelligent one; and to be fair, Yusuke would hate to admit, he WAS when compared to some of the Hotel's residents... scheme-y, but smart.]
He was aware that I knew what he had planned, so he didn't try to pull tricks on me. It would've been impossible to deceive me.
As for getting along
We managed to agree on a truce, as arguing and fighting wouldn't have helped the situation.
no subject
[Akira deadeye stares at the ceiling for a loooooong moment after that. I hope he didn't do anything stupid, Yusuke says]
[. . . he totally would do something stupid]
a truce is a good place to start. [he avoids talking about the truce they had for the duration of Maruki's Palace] i assume you guys didn't talk about what happened after niijima's palace, either.
[sssssomehow, Akira thinks Akechi would keep the whole "possibly dead" thing under wraps as much as possible]
no subject
No, I had refused to know about it. I don't remember if he even offered to share.
I have to admit, I was afraid that knowing about the future would change the outcome, especially if it was a good one for our end.
no subject
[. . . he gives a small, lopsided grin, pushing away the tumult of uncertainties he feels churning in his gut. there's no way for him to know what lies ahead for Akechi beyond the resort. . . and that is something he'll have to come to terms with]
[so he keeps his next response light]
better safe than sorry, so i don't really blame you.
in all of those sci-fi movies going back to the past to alter the future always has some weird, unfortunate butterfly effect. we don't want to fuck up the good things we've accomplished
no subject
he just doesn't know how to do it.]
yes, I was thinking about that too.
And considering this place keeps plucking us up from different time frames, messing with that kind of knowledge could ruin either my or your timeline.
I would feel awful if you telling me anything about the future, changes things for you when they've been fine before you arrived here.
no subject
[nothing beats the high of beating up three separate gods!!]
[. . . and even if Yusuke isn't aware, there is one thing he can do to help—]
do you mind if i stay over tonight? i found some retro movies and a dvd player we can make use of.
[dumpster diving in the Nest pays off! and it's all surprisingly not pornographic!!]
no subject
[He just trusts Akira to outsmart Akechi any time of day or night. And he believes in their group to pull it off and make it possible for Akira to DO the outsmarting.]
Of course I don't mind. We haven't watched movies in a while
[Well, Yusuke's "in a long while"]
Do I need to get us something? Snacks? Drinks?
no subject
it's your turn to provide the snacks, so sure. i'll take whatever you get.
surprise me
[. . . and then, after a moment, an addendum]
♡(>ᴗ•)
no subject
...he draws a chibi in his notepad of Akira with that expression. Too. Damn. Cute.]
Then leave it to me. I think I have found a few new snacks here that you'll find interesting.
[Not tasty.
Interesting.]
no subject
[eh. his courage is maxed. he can take it]
give me twenty minutes? i'll be up soon.
no subject
[The snacks are... a choice.
They are not entirely unpleasant but are definitively odd flavors.
And he has them all stacked on the little coffee table- chocolate and matcha popcorn, wasabi pocky sticks, spicy bonbons, a bunch of random STRONG pickle-flavored chips and onion rings, and perhaps, the most atrocious thing of all: licorice m&ms.
At least drinks and sodas are normal, save for ONE weird can of soda that says: Salty Watermelon Soda.]
no subject
[he is quiet for a moment as he takes in the buffet, his gaze lingering on the salty watermelon soda (rank six guts???), glasses lenses flashing opaque]
. . . huh. Interesting.
[somehow. . . he is not surprised]
So which one is your favorite?
no subject
He says 'interesting' in the exact moment Akira does, for different reasons. His brows briefly furrow, tho the reason for it is unknown (is it heat or taste? or both!?)]
The matcha popcorn is surprisingly nice. Crunchy and sweet.
Please sit, help yourself.
no subject
Well, if you insist.
[and he seats himself right on the second cushion of that loveseat, dropping the bag of DVDs onto the coffee table as he reaches for the matcha popcorn]
This all feels very gourmet.
[strange flavors are gourmet, right? . . . right?]
no subject
...even though Yusuke's love tends to show in weird, weird ways.
Strange flavors are strange flavors. Whenever he has a chance, Yusuke likes to poke around unusual things.]
Is it? I am not sure high-end restaurants would ever serve these.
[...that's where you find gourmet food, right?]
no subject
Probably not. . . but that was the joke.
[the popcorn bag crinkles as Akira tears it open, plucking out one piece to pop into his mouth. he chews on it slowly, brows furrowing as he absorbs the flavor and texture, like his brain is trying to make sense of what he is eating]
Interesting. . . [exactly the word Yusuke had used] . . . I don't know if these two flavors really go together.
no subject
OH! [Yes, he can see it as a joke now. And looks properly embarrassed for not catching it on time and letting it fly over his head.
It doesn't last too long. Akira's eating the popcorn, and Yusuke's curious.
He hit the nail on the head when describing these things.]
No. And yet somehow, after eating a few pieces and getting used to it, it's not so bad.
[So it's interesting.]
no subject
[after finishing the first piece, Akira grabs himself a whole handful, this time tossing three or four into his mouth at once. all to better assess the flavor!! except. . .]
[. . . nope, it tastes the same. still not bad, but kind of weird?]
. . . huh. I don't know if I care for snacks that I have to "get used to," but my horizons have been broadened today.
no subject
[Putting the snacks down, he goes to look through the movies Akira brought over for "snack time"; he doesn't expect anything they know from back home, only cheesy romance in the first ten minutes and sex the rest of the hour and a half.]
I wonder if these have any sort of plot...
no subject
[cheers to new experiences! he'll probably finish off the bag of popcorn, anyway. just so he doesn't waste it]
[with a click and hiss, Akira pops open the salted watermelon soda, scooting closer to Yusuke so he can watch as his thief rifles through the DVDs. they aren't titles from home, but all seem to have plot! none of them are porn! one is an action-adventure movie about a band of spies, one is an animated fantasy about a girl who befriends a dragon. . . etc etc]
I grabbed them from a secondhand shop at The Nest. I made sure they weren't something dirty masquerading as a legitimate film.
no subject
He picks up the one about the girl and a dragon and puts it in (honestly, it's the cover, it sold him, it was actually a wonderful shot), and settles back next to Akira on the couch. He helps himself to a soda as well, a blueberry-mint something that looks more like Windex than a drink. But it smells nice.]
Finding a movie that is not of a sexual nature here is close to impossible. I am surprised and intrigued.
